Philosopher Stoned – Incarcerated – 2007
Collection of poetry, fiction, non fiction and creative non fiction written while incarcerated fighting two strikes for violence under the influence. I wrote letters by hand using a golf pencil on yellow lined legal pads. I would mail them to my dear friend Ed Basanese who would type them up and send them back to me for editing. I would make notes on the versions he had sent back to me and over 12 months all of the content for this book was written this way. If it weren't for Ed's encouragement and help I would never have written this book. He told me to take advantage of the experience. Writing helped me manage and make it through those endless weeks of the same routine, unable to see the sun!

Incarcerated by Tavius Dyer is poetry, creative essay and memoir written in the flair that is much like the intensive drama of the highly exposed and successful write-it-while-you-live-it journal style of Hunter S. Thompson. The difference is in the personality, of course, as that of Incarcerated is a journey of a young angry man finding, stumbling, dancing, and almost dying, his way through the blood and frustration of emotional and mental predicaments. Many of his heart wrenching experiences alienate him for those he loves, and that is point where his poetry reaches his audience most deeply, but it's not the only extraordinary aspect of Dyer's style. He seems to understand mental health issues, recovery and the fall from grace in ways that help others find their path along the dark and dimly light road of life. Many of his ideas and desires clash with what is "good" for him, so to speak, but he carries on toward the prominent transcendental experience that is mirrored through his creative talents, random verse and musical juxtapositions. If you are looking for a fresh take on the personal revelation of bare-it-all in the most raw form, then Dyer's "Incarcerated" is the right place to begin. Put your helmet on, you will need it.

Tavius Dyer's second book release, "Philosopher Stoned – Recovered", is a collection of poetry written after the release of his first book "Philosopher Stoned – Incarcerated". Personally significant photos are included throughout to honor people and periods in his life. The poems were written through marriage, separation and divorce. Dyer was unemployed, homeless, broke, hungry, without personal transportation going into the new year 2010. Thanks to friends and strangers Tavius was able to rebuild his life again and continue to recover.
