Lift Off

I write on the flight deck your apartment has become
clear plastic goggles tight to my face from indoor skydiving

I touch down from your touch
having drooled without opening my mouth on your message table

your forearms like kitchen rollers
my tight flesh became doughy

you coaxed my limbs into varying positions
as your weight slid through my body

cradled my cranium upon your fingertips like a pedestal
settled into gentle leans that stretched subliminally

images of my neck at brake neck speeds were revisited
as the blackout from a concussion lifted

a car crash collision twisted out of me
z shaped motion of my neck

moved to the rhythm of reggae music
until ascending as my eyeballs bulged

I launched outside of myself
thrust into the world

my vision became fuzzy
all that surrounds like a rain of light

and I'm still descending from everywhere
looking for something to return to

Jake Chaplin of the band "For the Broken" www.myspace.com/forthebroken a long time friend who has been a guitarist since before puberty.  He used to jam home parties with Nate Allen on the drums from www.lastdropmastering.com.  In 2005 I started my record label Resonant Frequency Records.  In 2007 Jake Chaplin worked as my producer and audio engineer.  He also started the San Jose, Ca based alt-rock band Reflektiv with singer and songwriter Chris Jaiden www.facebook.com/chrisjaidenmusic.  We produced and released Reflektiv's EP at the Voodoo Lounge downtown San Jose, CA.  We also produced Gerald Lee's EP "The Return www.myspace.com/villan  (Formerly San Diego lead man in Reggae band Lifted Roots)  www.liftedroots.com now gigging with band Zig Zag Jones.

Jake Chaplin and Lou Evans of band “4 2 Day”  http://www.reverbnation.com/42day met at my first book release "Philosopher Stoned-Incarcerated" www.tavius.org where Gerald Lee and Reflektiv both performed acoustic sets at Mission City Cafe summer 2007.

Chris Jaiden moved to southern California where Lou Evans was based at the time, and Jake followed.  Lou Evans and Jake Chaplin began working more closely together performing acoustic shows.  Jake's back up vocals experience with Reflektiv where developed further harmonizing with Lou Evan's amazing vocal range as a singer songwriter.

As things with Reflektiv dissolved and Jake began producing on his own he wrote the first “For the Broken” song chorus for "They Are Coming For You".  Immediately, Nate Allen www.lastdropmastering.com and I recognized the potential in Jake's singing songwriting talents, and Jake was off and running writing songs for his solo project at the time “For the Broken” while performing with Lou Evans in their project “4 2 day”.

Jake Chaplin and Lou Evans have grown together sharing lead vocals and harmonies on different songs written by both artists sperately in this collaborative project For the Broken.  Jake's amazing guitar skills shine through on leads and soaring solos like in song "The Angels" truly ascending heavenly.  Jake's mastery of guitars, ability to program drum beats have been enhanced by his natural ability to play piano and write them into songs like "Pull the Strings Out".

With the addition of John Holloway on drums and Robert Atkins on bass the band has been able to come out from the acoustic sets at cafe's and play plugged in as a full live band really bringing to life the amazing song writing of Jake Chaplin and Lou Evans.  John Holloways stellar drumming and Robert Atkins sweet bass tones along with Lou Evans and Jake Chaplins singing, songwriting, and guitars  make “For the Broken” a must see live act!  They recently started a recording studio in San Francisco so you can expect a lot more out of these guys!

The most amazing thing about Jake Chaplin, and the band For the Broken is that Jake wrote every instrument and lyric for many of the songs , played, recorded and master all of them himself.  His talent and skills extend beyond his epic song writing into anything musical and vocal.  The band is tight as proven last night in their first live south bay show at Homestead Lanes at another great Barb Rocks presents  www.barbrocks.com event!

Pictures are from last nights show at Homestead Lanes.
